Counseling for Grief & Loss throughout the Lifespan

Online for California, North Dakota, & Hawaii Residents

Your life should be vibrant.

You should be able to live it on your own terms and savor every moment.

But that’s not always how it goes, is it? Painful experiences of grief and loss happen throughout life – not just at the end. They make it hard to experience the things that make life worth living.

It’s like your world has lost all color.

Whether you are nearing the end of your life, you have lost someone you love, you are caring for a loved one whose life is more complex than you imagined, or you are married to a person that puts their life on the line every day: I’m here for you.

This place is for you if…

Everything feels heavy.

You’ve been strong, and you are doing your best.

But none of that seems to be enough.

It’s exhausting. You feel numb and overwhelmed. The colors of the world have faded.

You’re plagued by loneliness.

Your loss has left you feeling misunderstood.

Ignoring phone calls from family and friends – you don’t want to hear what they have to say, you don’t want to get invited out, and you feel like each invite is pity.

Things have changed so drastically, and everything you know is different.

The newness of being alone makes the simplest things seem impossible.

When did making a meal or running errands become so overwhelming?

Sleep has become impossible.

You toss and turn all night and wake up groggy.

It’s hard to concentrate at work, and staying on task at home is just as much of a challenge.

Your “To-do” lists get longer each day. You can’t stop worrying about everything you haven’t done! Family, coworkers, and friends… they’re counting on you to get things done.

When was the last time you took any time for yourself?

You’re drained and have been robbed of so much joy.

Decision fatigue is holding you hostage.

Changes are impossible to make because you cannot find the end of the tangled emotions.

Should we make this move now? It’s the middle of the school year, and this can’t be good for the kids.

Do I take the promotion? It means later hours and more time away from my family.

How do I bring up what’s bothering me without turning into another shouting match?

You don’t want to make the wrong choice – tiptoeing around what you really want to do or say.

Crystal Bettenhausen-Bubulka, LCSW, MSG

Hi, I’m Crystal.

Life is full of ups and downs.

Together, we can find the color in life.

My work is to help you restore a sense of purpose and see the color in life again. Here are a few things that I want you to know…

Recovering from grief is possible.

Therapy is a confidential space where you can reflect and begin to untangle your emotions. Sometimes, it takes an outside perspective to understand the broken fragments of your life. I know how difficult it can be to seek help. Together, we can take down the wall you have put up to protect yourself.

Doing everything for everyone is tough.

Maybe you’re caring for an aging parent while also caring for your children. Or your husband has PTSD, and your young children need your attention, too. Or you’ve lost your purpose and seek comfort or respite but don’t know where to turn.

As a military spouse,

I understand too well the tremendous amount of sacrifice, endless changes, and lack of control that come with our military family lifestyle. With the greatest honor come many challenges. Why can’t we talk more about this struggle? Because we may feel unsafe, scared, or unsupported. I became a licensed clinical social worker to offer a space filled with compassion and empathy. I see you and will support you without shame or judgment. Opening up to a stranger is intimidating, and I work on building our relationship from the very first session.

My mission is to help you find healing.

I am the navigator in the relationship, and I seek to understand what direction you want to go while offering validation, reassurance, and gentle inquiry. I appreciate working with clients who are motivated to work toward a place of well-being and show up to our session ready to create positive changes.
